Because every person, by virtue of being born, is an initium, a beginning and a newcomer to the world, people can take the initiative and set new things in motion.

[according to Hannah Arendt]

The growing awareness of the destructive power of the alliance between major tech companies and authoritarian politicians presents us, as a democratic society, with new challenges. To act responsibly, we need strategies to engage in the development process without letting ourselves be influenced by the instinct toward negativity, which is amplified by media coverage and (conspiracy) theories on social media.

Engaging with art helps us respond to the (perceived) threat with “tolerance for ambivalence”—with the resilient ability to seismographically perceive the diffuse uncertainties and threats of our time, to analytically process them, and to creatively transform them—not least so that we can ultimately remain emotionally capable of action and productive.

Media art projects encourage us to engage with new technologies in a critical and reflective manner, as well as to continually renew our viewpoints and perspectives in order to devise rules for fair and ethically responsible use.

The media art projects on display invite us to become creative co-creators, to question and redefine our role within this complex network.
