Adam McCartney (*1987 Limerick, Ireland) studied music at University College Cork and following this at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, before moving to Vienna. He works as a freelance composer in cooperation with a diverse range of musicians, artists, and stage designers to realize music for live concert and music theatre productions, as well as studio-recorded works. His music has been performed in a number of European countries and in the USA, played at festivals for contemporary music and broadcast on the radio.
For Adam, the work of musical composition represents an activity that is directly involved with the observation of sounds and their connections. For him, a sound is not only the individually received result of a physical process but also an interface to a broader context of abstract experience. A special concern for him is the traceability of music that can extend the horizons of experience considerably. Every experience of a sound is in free contact with reality.
