Julia Gorostidi

Graduated in Graphic Design from the Ecal (BA. Lausanne, CH, 2005) and in Fine Arts from the Goldsmiths College (MFA, London, UK, 2015), Julia Gorostidi is a French/Swiss artist currently based in Barcelona. Working both with and within the digital and the physical worlds, she is mostly active in the fields of video, performance and installation where she develops long and short term projects that look at the role of subjectivity in the construction and representation of the Self. Often employing automatic and collaborative creation techniques, Gorostidi produces multi-layered works that explore the questions of Identity as being a product of our social structures and relations and that interrogate and deconstruct the notions of Authenticity, Autonomy and Otherness.
Gorostidi is a current long-term resident at Hangar Barcelona (2018-20), she has participated in various exhibitions and residencies in Spain, France, England, Greece and Russia and has recently been invited by EMMA to realise a project in Colombia in 2019.
