Matthew Gardiner

Matthew Gardiner is one of the world's leading experts in the field of Oribotics. He coined the term and pioneered the fusion of origami, folding and robotics.

Gardiner's work moves between digital and physical media and plays in the in-between. Sometimes experiments lead to the digitalisation of material phenomena and sometimes to the production and programming of materials. The intersection plays the most important role here. As head of the Ars Electronica Futurelab for artistic-scientific research strategies, his work focuses on building expertise in trans-, multi- and interdisciplinary research methods. Current research activity as Principle Investigator for the PEEK project AR590 Ori*botics, the Art and Science of Origami and Robotics.
