Surzhana Radnaeva
Surzhana Radnaeva is a material researcher, artist, and founder of Traditional Futures. Rooted in her Indigenous Buryat heritage, her work explores how ancestral knowledge can remain a living practice through materials, garments, and embodied experiences. Raised in the Siberian steppes and later shaped by life in Moscow, Beijing, and France her path unfolds across cultures, disciplines, and material traditions.
Now based in France, she founded Traditional Futures in 2019 as a studio where traditional craft knowledge meets contemporary experimentation. Working with paper, natural fibres, and bio-based materials, her practice investigates processes of material transformation, exploring how inherited techniques can evolve into new material possibilities. Through hands-on experimentation and collaborations with artisans, engineers, and researchers, she connects craft traditions with contemporary material practices.
