We are constantly touched by sound in the world around us. But it touches us, we don’t touch it. In this interactive installation for fabric, sensors, sounds & headphones, participants are invited to discover what a sound might feel like if we could hold it in our hands, through one sound artist’s vision. Like the material, the sounds used are highly textural and seek to correspond a sonic “fuzzy” sound with a physical “fuzzy material”. Each box is embedded with a variety of sensors (force, stroke & stretch) The participant then pushes, pulls, squeezes, and stretches the material, which then manipulates the sounds coming through the headphones. The interactive nature of the installation allows the listener to engage with the composers’ idea of tactility but think through their own as well.
