The esc medien kunst labor presents the five finalists of the phonoECHOES Competition 2025 organized by ACOM - Austrian Composers Association. The event will also be streamed on ACOM's YouTube channel. Together with a jury of experts, the audience - both on site and online - will select the three winning works, followed by the award ceremony.

The ACOM – Austrian Composers Association has organized the phonoECHOES competition for the fifth time this year in cooperation with Klanghaus Untergreith. Musicians were invited to submit audiovisual works from the fields of sound art, experimental electronics, and electroacoustic music that contain improvisational elements and whose visual implementation is also artistically designed.

In particular, the competition sought works that – in line with the theme of ORF musikprotokoll 2025 – question or break existing musical or non-musical rules, thereby opening up new forms of expression in sound and image.
