Jennifer Merlyn Scherler
lives and works in Basel. In 2021, Scherler graduated with honors with a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the Academy of Art and Design in Basel. In addition to her own artistic practice, she is involved in the collective project mcww (memeclassworldwide) and teaches at the School of Design in Biel and the Bern University of the Arts.
Jennifer Merlyn Scherler's work focuses on the analysis of internet cultures in connection with questions of gender and collective identities, self-representation, and the effects of culturally dominant structures promoted by social media networks. The artist describes herself as a fan and draws inspiration from various fan (fiction) communities, with a particular interest in user-generated (cinematic) languages created to share knowledge and affection for a particular subject.
Among others: Pax Award Emerging Media Artist; Kiefer-Hablitzel Prize; Work grant from Kunstkredit Basel; Aeschlimann-Corti Scholarship. Scherler's works are exhibited nationally and internationally.
