This short little etude for multichannel sound system is following investigations for the music-theatre piece "The Circle with ThreeCorners" that was developed in collaboration with Graz-based composer Sânziana Dobrovicescu. The text that is heard throughout the installation's five hour runtime is loosely inspired by Jean Genet's 1947 play "The Maids", an absurdist masterpiece in which two servants, consumed by hatred for those who rule them, can only express their revolt through obsessive, ritualized ceremony. The voice recordings were performed by the main character of the play: Mezzo-soprano Camille Primeau. The listener, enveloped by the ghostly traces of a voice that oscillates between power and impotence, will hear fragments of the play’s text drifting all through the space. Some of these are not merely words, but commands. And to these commands, we ask - no, we insist - that you adhere absolutely.
